New Lenox Electricity Aggregation Question (April 2011)
This measure was approved
- YES 1,297 (60.13%)
- NO 860 (39.87%)
This measure sought to allow the village to buy electricity in bulk for all the residents of the village and obtain a cheaper rate for the electricity used. This will allow the village to obtain the lowest rate from different providers. Residents can still choose to opt out of the communal buying of electricity and obtain their own rates or stay with the current provider. Village officials emphasized the choice and greater power with this option, allowing for cheaper rates for everyone. A meeting held by the Village board before the vote to inform residents about this issue answering questions about electricity supply and how the village would be able to get lower rates for residents. None at the meeting were opposed to the measure Village officials were happy to see that most thought the issue to save money was a good option.
