Two New Market & Union Township Cemetery Levy Measures were on the November 8, 2011 ballot in the townships of New Market and Union which are in Highland County.

The New Market measure sought to replace the current cemetery levy with one set at a rate of $.05 per $100 of assessed property value for a further five years in order to continue to pay for cemetery maintenance and operations costs in the township.

The question on the ballot:

New Market Measure: A replacement of a tax for the benefit of NEW MARKET TOWNSHIP for the purpose of MAINTAINING AND OPERATING TOWNSHIP CEMETERIES at a rate not exceeding 0.5 mill for each one dollar of valuation, which amounts to FIVE CENTS ($0.05) for each one hundred dollars of valuation, for FIVE (5) YEARS, commencing in 2011, first due in calendar year 2012.

Union Measure: A renewal of a tax for the benefit of UNION TOWNSHIP for the purpose of MAINTAINING AND OPERATING TOWNSHIP CEMETERIES at a rate not exceeding 0.5 mill for each one dollar of valuation, which amounts to FIVE CENTS ($0.05) for each one hundred dollars of valuation, for FIVE (5) YEARS, commencing in 2011, first due in calendar year 2012.[3]
