Located in the northeast region of the United States, New York is nicknamed “the Empire State.” Bordering New York are the states of Pennsylvannia, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont. In addition to New York City being the state’s largest and highest populatied city with 8.3 million inhabitants, New York City is also the highest populated city in the United States. Located upstate, the capital of New York is Albany. Currently, there are two Democratic members of the U.S. Senate, a total of 27 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, 62 members of the New York State Senate and 150 members of the New York State Assembly. As of September 2013, New Mexico is one of 13 states that is under divided government and does not have state government trifecta.
