New York Constitutional Convention Question (1997)

A New York Constitutional Convention Question was on the November 4, 1997 ballot in New York, where it was defeated.

The issue at hand was whether to approved holding a constitutional convention to consider and propose changes to the New York Constitution.

Section 2 of Article XIX of the New York Constitution requires that a question as to whether to hold a constitutional convention is automatically placed on the New York general election ballot every twenty years, starting in 1957.[1]

The 1997 vote was the third such vote. The fourth vote will take place in 2017.
