The New York lieutenant gubernatorial election will take place on November 4, 2014. Incumbent Robert Duffy (D) was first elected in 2010 and is eligible to seek re-election in 2014, although he opted not to run. In May 2014, Duffy announced his plans to retire as lieutenant governor after his first term, which ends in January 2015.[1]

New York is one of 12 states to use a strictly closed primary process, in which the selection of a party's candidates in an election is limited to registered party members.[2][3][4]
