The New York lieutenant gubernatorial election will take place on November 4, 2014. Incumbent Robert Duffy (D) was first elected in 2010 and is eligible to seek re-election in 2014, although he has opted not to run. In May 2015, Duffy announced his plans to retire as lieutenant governor after his first term, which ends in January 2015.[1]

New York is one of 12 states to use a strictly closed primary process, in which the selection of a party's candidates in an election is limited to registered party members.[2][3][4]
