Norfolk is an independent city located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is considered a county-equivalent. Its population is 242,803.[1]

Public employee salaries

A criminal investigation has been launched about Jill McGlone, a former employee of the Norfolk Community Services Board who was placed on leave during a personnel investigation 12 years ago. She has continued to collect checks and raises for the past 12 years, and earned $29,000 in 2009. Five political officials lost their job because of the payment oversight.[3]

Also, the city manager of Norfolk earns $213,000 in base salary, while two assistant city managers split $300,000, and two assistants to the city manager earn nearly $90,000 annually.[3]
