The 39th state admitted into the Union, North Dakota achieved statehood in 1889. Located in the Midwestern United States, North Dakota borders Minnesota, South Dakota, Montana and the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Although North Dakota’s capital is Bismarck, the largest city in North Dakota is Fargo.
