North Huron School District Operating Tax Levy Proposal (May 2013)
This measure authorized the North Huron School District to impose an operating property tax levy of 18.7346 mills ($18.7346 per $1,000 of assessed valuation) for 11 years. 18.2346 mills of this tax is a renewal of an expiring property tax and the remaining 0.5 mill is an increase in the property taxes of the district. The estimated first year revenue from this combined tax is $2,202,518.

|“||This proposal will allow the school district to continue to levy that statutory rate of 18 mills on all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, required for the school district to receive its revenue per pupil foundation allowance. The remaining .7346 mill is only available to be levied to restore millage lost as a result of the reduction required by the "Headlee" amendment to the Michigan Constitution of 1963 and will only be levied to the extent necessary to restore that reduction.
Shall the currently authorized millage rate limitation of 18.2346 mills ($18.2346 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, in North Huron Schools, Huron County, Michigan, be renewed, and increased by .5 mills ($0.50 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation), for a total authorized millage rate limitation of 18.7346 mills ($18.7346 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation), for a period of 11 years, 2014 to 2024, inclusive, to provide funds for operating purposes(18.2346 mills of the above is a renewal of millage which will expire with the 2013 tax levy, and .5 mill is an increase of millage which will be levied only to the extent necessary to restore millage lost as a result of the reduction required by the Michigan Constitution of 1963); the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2014 is approximately $2,202,518?
