North Pekin-Marquette Heights School District 102 Levy Increase (April 2011)
This measure was approved
- YES 622 (60.4%)
- NO 408 (39.6%)
This measure sought to increase the current property tax rate by $.35 per $100 of assessed property value for a period of four years in order to help with budget needs. School officials noted that teachers, the band and choir programs as well as all extracurricular activities would have been cut for the next school year if this measure did not get approved. District officials also noted that significant cuts have been made in previous years, the district just does not have the money to keep funding these programs without additional taxes.
Opponents to the measure noted that this was already defeated in the previous election and that consolidation of elementary schools would be a better option to save money rather than raise more taxes for residents. Those at the Peoria Journal Star noted that they could not endorse this measure when it would just be more of a burden on locals.
