Senate Committees

The Ocean, Marine Resources, & Hawaiian Affairs Committee is a standing committee of the Hawaii House of Representatives. It resulted from a reorganization of the Water, Land & Ocean Resources Committee and the Hawaiian Affairs Committee.

Per the House Rules, committees of the Hawaii House of Representatives are assigned by party caucuses. Members of the majority caucus designate the chair, vice-chair and majority party members of the committee, while members of the minority caucus designates the minority members of the committee.[1] Committees are assigned at the start of each term.[2] A majority of appointed members make up a committee's quorum.[3] The Speaker and Vice Speaker serve as an ex officio member of each committee without the power to vote.[4]

Committee on Ocean, Marine Resources, & Hawaiian Affairs whose scope shall be those programs relating to ocean activities, outdoor marine matters, including marine recreational boating, ocean fish and game management, corals and inorganic marine resources, ocean mining, mariculture, commercial and recreational ocean fish and fishing, including fishery development and management, submerged lands, and the Coastal Zone Management Act. The committee shall also consider those programs relating to persons of Hawaiian ancestry, including programs administered by the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands and the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.[5]
