Oklahoma House Bill 2869 (2008)
Oklahoma House Bill 2869 was proposed by Democratic state legislator Mike Shelton in February 2008. It would have imposed additional restrictions on laws governing the initiative process in Oklahoma. The bill ultimately failed and was not enacted.
The new provisions proposed in the law were:
- People who ask other people to sign petitions must be registered voters of the state of Oklahoma before they can legally ask anyone to sign an initiative petition.
- Make it illegal to pay a person based on how many signatures that person was able to collect.
- Changes in 2008 to laws governing ballot measures
- Laws governing the initiative process in Oklahoma
- Petition blocking
