OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma: State Question 744 has been defeated by a wide margin, according to the elections results via the Oklahoma Secretary of State's Website. As of 8:15 p.m. CST, results show that the measure has been defeated with about 80 percent of voters in reporting precincts voting 'no' on the measure. Reports out of the state have already claimed that the measure has been voted down, despite the fact that not all precincts have reported numbers.

The measure would have amended the Oklahoma Constitution to require the Oklahoma State Legislature to fund public education to at least the per-pupil average of neighboring states. SQ 744 was initiated by the Oklahoma Education Association (OEA) after the union lost a lawsuit seeking to increase education funding.
