It passed with 490,596 voters supporting the initiative, and 306,734 voters in opposition.
The official summary of the ballot question said:
- "This measure proposes to amend the constitution by authorizing the governing bodies and employees at institutions with an Oklahoma State System of Higher Education to have an ownership interest in a business entity if the interest is acquired as a result of research or development of a technology involving the authorized use of public properties at the institution."
