There will be a Pagosa Springs Superstore Standards Referendum on the April ballot in Archuleta County for voters in the town if Pagosa Springs.

This referendum seeks to set standards for large superstores such as Wal-Mart. Specifically the voters will be asked if there should be further studies about the impact of these large stores on the town not asking if they should be allowed in town or not. August 2009 the town council repealed a law that ensured large stores had to do impact studies before they were allowed to build, their idea was that these studies hindered the ability of these large stores to come into the town. Residents were upset with this decision and thus the repeal was suspended until the results of the petition could be decided.[1]
