Paul De La Cerda was an incumbent member of and candidate for an at-large seat on the Saugus Union School District Board of Trustees that was defeated in the general election on November 5, 2013.

Biography

Paul De La Cerda is an Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for the Los Angeles Community College District at Southwest College. He is a graduate of William S. Hart Union High School District and earned his Bachelor's degree from the Oklahoma State University. He earned his Master's of business administration from the University of Virginia. He has been a resident of the Santa Clarita Valley for over 28 years. He is married to his wife Andrea and they have four children that attend Saugus Union schools.[1]

Opposition

Paul De La Cerda ran against four candidates including incumbents Judy Egan Umeck and Douglas A. Bryce as well as challengers Stacie L. Allegra and Chris Trunkey for three seats in the general election on November 5, 2013.[2]

Santa Clarita outperforms the rest of California when measured on the basis of median household income, percentage of residents living below the poverty level, percentage of residents over the age of 25 with a Bachelor's degree and percentage of residents over the age of 25 with a high school diploma. The median household income in Santa Clarita was $83,579 compared to $61,632 for the state of California. 31.7% of Santa Clarita residents aged 25 years and older attained a bachelor's degree compared to a 30.2 in California. The US Census also showed the poverty rate in Santa Clarita was 7.7% compared to 14.4% for the entire state. The US Census also found that 87.7% of Santa Clarita residents aged 25 years and older attained a high school degree compared to a 80.8% in California.[6]
