H. Paul Dennert (b. June 25, 1937) is a former Democratic member of the South Dakota House of Representatives, representing District 2 from 2005 to 2013.

Dennert received his diploma from Columbia High School in 1955.

Dennert was a Director/Trustee at Cenex in 1990. He has also worked as a Farmer/Cattleman and Teacher/Superintendent of Sunday School.

Dennert served in the South Dakota State House of Representatives from 1993 to 1996. He then served in the South Dakota State Senate from 1996 to 2004. He rejoined the South Dakota House in 2005 and has served in that position since, representing the 2nd District. During his time in the House, Dennert has served as Assistant Minority Leader. He has also served as a Township Clerk and Assessor.

Dennert and his wife, Peggy, have two children.

Dennert ran in the 2012 election for South Dakota State Senate District 3. Dennert ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on June 5 and was defeated by incumbent Al Novstrup (R) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[1]

Dennert ran for re-election to one of two seats in District 2 of the South Dakota House of Representatives. Also running were fellow Democratic incumbent Elaine Elliott and Republicans Lana Greenfield (R) and Norbert Barrie (R).[2] H. Paul Dennert (D) and Elaine Elliott (D) won election in the November 2 general election.[3]
