Petrochemicals are the chemicals that make up crude oil and natural gas and are composed of hydrocarbon molecules. Petrochemicals are used to make all or part of vinyl, polyester, rubber and plastic products. According to Elmhurst College only about 5% of the oil and gas consumed in the U.S. in a year are used to produced petrochemical products.[1]
