Phillip P. Puckett (b. August 10, 1947) is a former Democratic member of the Virginia State Senate, representing District 38, from 1998 until his resignation on June 9, 2014.[1]

Biography

Puckett received a B.S. at the University of Tennessee and a M.A. at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Puckett has worked as the Vice President of Business Development for First Bank & Trust Company.

Distancing from President Obama

Puckett was the first of Virginia's Democratic state legislators to say that he would not support President Obama in 2012. Puckett was facing a tough re-election race against Adam Light ahead of the 2011 elections when he made his comments.[2]

On November 8, 2011, Puckett won re-election to District 38 of the Virginia State Senate. He was unchallenged in the August 23 primary election and defeated Adam Light (R) in the November 8 general election.[3]
