The first measure sought to increase the current non residential property tax to one set at a rate of $18 per $1,000 of assessed value.
The second measure sought to increase the current non residential property tax by a rate of $2 per $1,000 of assessed value. both levies go towards operational costs of the schools in the district.

|Proposal 1: Shall the limitation on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, in Pine River Area Schools, Osceola, Lake and Wexford Counties, Michigan, be increased by 18 mills ($18.00 no each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for a period of 5 years, 2012 to 2016, inclusive, to provide funds for operating purposes; the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2012 is approximately $1,783,192 (this is a renewal of millage which expired with the 2011 tax levy)?|
