Our approach to direct democracy
Ballot measures are in Ballotpedia’s name and in our DNA. Providing one-stop coverage for the questions, propositions, and measures on state and local ballots was our first foray into providing voters with robust information, and it remains so today.
—Ballotpedia's founder and CEO, Leslie Graves

Ballotpedia’s ballot measures project provides comprehensive, factual, and neutral coverage of statewide ballot measures across the United States, along with ballot measures for thousands of local governments.

We track state ballot measures from their filing and qualification for the ballot through the election and beyond. Our coverage explains the legal processes, historical context, and campaigns that surround ballot measures.

In the United States, a ballot measure is a law, issue, or question that appears on a statewide or local ballot for voters of that jurisdiction to decide.

Most of the laws governing ballot measures are state laws, as there is no federal ballot measure process. This means the process for ballot measures varies depending on the state.
