Pro-sales tax campaign receiving high donations in Arizona
PHOENIX, Arizona: Supporters of the proposed sales tax increase have gathered more than $419,000 in contributions as of February 23, 2010. That number does not include minor donations to the campaign for the measure. According to the Arizona Secretary of State's office, 11 groups have donated at least $10,000 each. The measure, proposed by Governor of Arizona Jan Brewer, would implement a 1 cent sales tax increase that would last for three years in the state.
On the other side of the sales tax debate, Senator Russell Pearce, head of the Ax the Tax Committee, stated that there have been no large donations to the campaign against the measure so far. The first financial report for the committee is scheduled to be turned in on March 19, 2010.
