Quincy Fire Protection District parcel tax, Measure A (June 2013)
Measure A authorized a special parcel tax of $98.50 per year per parcel for four years to supplement the funding of the Quincy Fire District.
A similar measure was approved by 87% of voters in 2005. The 2005 tax expired in 2012.
At the time of this election, Quincy Fire Protection District had a regular revenue of about $241,000 from its property tax allotment and an annual operating cost of about $338,000. It had three paid staff members: Chief Robbie Cassou, administrative secretary Yvonne Bush, and mechanic/facilities manager Charlie Read. The 40 firefighters and three commissioners were all volunteers.
This was an all-mail ballot election and 3,420 vote-by-mail ballots were sent to residents. 1,556 ballots were returned.
This measure required a 2/3rds supermajority vote for approval.

The "Yes on Measure A Committee" was formed by concerned citizens who were working to showcase the value of the fire department and its need for additional funding. The committee included district commissioners Andy Ryback and Chuck Leonhardt.

|MEASURE A: Upon a two-thirds vote of approval, shall a special tax of $98.50 per parcel per fiscal year be imposed on each and every parcel within the boundaries of the Quincy Fire Protection District, excluding those parcels exempt from county property tax, for the sole purpose of supplementing the funding of services for fire protection and prevention, emergency medical response, hazardous materials emergency response commencing in fiscal year 2013-14, and continuing through the next four fiscal years ending June 30, 2018, with tax proceeds to be collected and apportioned along with county property taxes?|
