Impact of redistricting

See also: Redistricting in Rhode Island

The Democratic-dominated Legislature passed new maps on February 1, 2012, with Gov. Lincoln Chafee (I) signing them on the 8th. While the state senate districts have gone without challenge, the state house districts were legally challenged by the Rhode Island Republican Party on the grounds of compactness and incumbent favoring, though this suit did not advanced past the complaint stage.[4]
