Rhode Island casino bill up for debate next week
PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island: A Rhode Island bill proposing an expansion on casinos in the state will be considered by the House Finance Committee next Thursday, May 20, 2010, in order to determine whether to send the bill to the House for a vote. The measure, which states that casino gambling would create more jobs and tax revenue, would allow such gambling at Twin River and Newport Grand slots parlors.
The measure wouldn't be the first of its kind to hit the state's ballot. In 2006, Rhode Island voters rejected a proposed constitutional amendment that would have allowed the construction of a casino in West Warwick.
