Richard Eckstrom (b. 1948) is the current Republican South Carolina Comptroller General. He was first elected in 2002, and was re-elected in 2006, 2010 and 2014.

Eckstrom most recently won re-election in 2014, and began his fourth term in office on January 14, 2015.[1][2]

Before becoming state comptroller, Eckstrom served one term as Treasurer of South Carolina from 1995-1999. According to his office biography, Eckstrom is the first CPA to hold either one of the statewide financial positions.[1]

Biography

Eckstrom is a CPA. Prior to his election as state treasurer in 1994, he was a practicing CPA with an international accounting firm. Eckstrom is a graduate of the University of South Carolina. Following his graduation in 1970, he was commissioned in the Navy and conducted oceanographic research for three years. Upon completion of military service, he earned an MBA and a master's degree in accountancy from the University of South Carolina School of Business. While a graduate student he also joined the Navy Reserve, retiring as a captain in 1995. Eckstrom is a brigadier general in the South Carolina State Guard.[1]

Eckstrom was first elected as South Carolina Comptroller General in 2002, and was re-elected in 2006, 2010 and 2014.[1][2]

South Carolina Treasurer (1995-1999)

Eckstrom served one term as State Treasurer of South Carolina from 1995-1999.

Eckstrom ran for re-election to the office of South Carolina Comptroller General. Eckstrom was unopposed for the Republican nomination in the primary on June 10. The general election took place November 4, 2014.[2]
