Richard Engels (b. December 7, 1969) was a Democratic member of the South Dakota House of Representatives, representing District 9. Engels first served in the South Dakota State House of Representatives from 2002 to 2004. He then rejoined the South Dakota House in 2007. He served in that position until 2011.

Engels earned his B.S. in Economics from South Dakota State University in 1991. He went on to receive his J.D. from the University of South Dakota in 1995. Engels and his wife, Lisa, have one child.

Engels has worked as an attorney for the following law offices: Powell Law Office from 1995 to 1996, Engels Law Office in 1996, the Insurance Division of the South Dakota Department of Commerce from 1996 to 2000, Abourezk Law Offices, Professional Company from 2000 to 2003, and Galland Law Firm, Professional Company from 2003 to 2006. He has been the owner of Engels Law Firm, Professional Company since 2006.
