Salem, Oregon: The 2014 Oregon primary and nonpartisan office elections were held on May 20, 2014. Both Democratic and Republican gubernatorial candidates contested their respective primaries, for a total of eight candidates in two primaries. Incumbent Gov. John Kitzhaber will face State Representative Dennis Richardson and unopposed Constitution Party candidate Aaron Auer in what will surely be a tight race in November.

The other state executive race on the ballot was the nonpartisan contest for Oregon Commissioner of Labor and Industries. The incumbent, Brad Avakian, was unopposed.

Polling comparing Kitzhaber and Richardson, even before the primaries ended, showed them locked in a tight race. What has been a quiet contest so far will surely become much more prominent as Richardson seeks to overturn three-term incumbent Kitzhaber.

Primary Election Results
  • Republican primary

Dennis Richardson was one of the first Republicans in the race and quietly remained the front-runner in a crowded field.
