Riverview Park Alcohol Sales Amendment, 2009

A Riverview Park Alcohol Sales Amendment appeaed on the November 3, 2009 ballot in Morgan County for voters in the City of Fort Morgan.

The ballot measure called for an amendment to the city Fort Morgan Municipal Code to allow for the sale and consumption of alcohol at special events in Riverview Park. However, the only alcohol permitted, if approved, would be beverages sold by the event organizers under the city-approved permit. The city would still prohibit outside alcohol to be brought to the park.

On July 21, 2009, the city council voted 5-2 in favor of placing the measure on the November ballot.[1]

The ballot language read as follows:[3]

Shall Sec. 20-29 and Sec. 3-2 of the Fort Morgan Municipal Code (1994) be amended so that commencing on the fifth day after certification of the election alcohol will be permitted to be possessed and consumed in Riverside Park in designated areas as prescribed in a special event permit granted to a nonprofit organization for the sale of alcohol and whereas said permit must be obtained through application and approval by the local liquor licensing authority or city council?
