Recall supporter Larry Alsteen said, "He would run [the city] himself. That's the way he wants it to be. He wants to be the number one guy. He wants to get rid of his committees and just run it himself."

Recall proponents needed to collect 152 valid signatures in order to trigger a recall election. On June 10, 2014, recall proponents submitted 210 signatures. A recall election was scheduled for July 29. Dennis Rosa defeated Jaeger in the recall election to become the new mayor.
