Russell A. Castaneda-Calleros is an incumbent member of and was candidate for an at-large seat on the Whittier Union High School District Board of Trustees that was unopposed in his first election on November 5, 2013.

Biography

Russell A. Castaneda-Calleros is the Director of Government & Community Relations for Rio Hondo College. He is married to his wife Maria and they have three children. Russell earned his Bachelor's degree from Stanford University and earned his Master's degree in Public Policy from Harvard University.[1]

Opposition

Russell A. Castaneda-Calleros ran against two other candidates, including fellow incumbents Jeffrey S. Baird and Leighton Anderson for three seats in the general election on November 5, 2013. The election was canceled and did not appear on the official ballot.[2]

Endorsements

Russell A. Castaneda-Calleros received official endorsements from Congresswoman Grace Napolitano, Cathy Warner - Mayor of Whittier and many members of the elementary school boards in the WHUHSD area.[3]

Whittier outperforms the rest of California when measured on the basis of median household income, percentage of residents living below the poverty level and percentage of residents over the age of 25 with a high school diploma. Whittier underperforms the rest of California when measured on the basis of percentage of residents over the age of 25 with a Bachelor's degree. The median household income in Whittier was $68,055 compared to $61,632 for the state of California. 23.3% of Whittier residents aged 25 years and older attained a bachelor's degree compared to a 30.2 in California. The US Census also showed the poverty rate in Whittier was 10.1% compared to 14.4% for the entire state. The US Census also found that 82.7% of Whittier residents aged 25 years and older attained a high school degree compared to a 80.8% in California.[6]
