A San Juan County Fireworks Ordinance Question was on the November 2, 2010 ballot in San Juan County.

This measure was approved

  • YES 4,566 (50.32%)Approveda
  • NO 4,508 (49.68%)[1]

This measure sought approval of a county ordinance which would ban the use, sale, possession, transfer or discharge of any fireworks in the county without a permit to do so.[2] This measure had been previously voted on in 2008, where the ban of fireworks was approved but because of a legal challenge and a judge ruling the ballot language was confusing, the ban was not put into law. Opponents of the ban noted that dangerous fireworks, those which fly up into the air, are already banned on the County level and this measure to ban 'safe and sane' fireworks was not needed.[3]
