Sandra Segal Ikuta is a federal judge with the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit based in San Francisco. She joined the court in 2006 after being nominated by President George W. Bush.

Early life and education

Born in Los Angeles, California, Ikuta graduated from University of Cal-Berkeley with her bachelor's degree in 1976 and later from Columbia University with her Master's degree in 1978. Ikuta obtained her Juris Doctor degree from University of California Law School in 1988.[1]

Professional career

Ikuta began her career as a law clerk for Chief Judge of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Alex Kozinski from 1988 to 1989 and for Associate Justice Sandra Day O'Connor of The Supreme Court of the United States from 1989 to 1990. Ikuta was a private practice attorney in California from 1990 to 2004.[1]

Judicial career

Ikuta was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit by President George W. Bush on February 8, 2006, to a seat vacated by James R. Browning as Browning assumed senior status. Ikuta was confirmed by the Senate on June 19, 2006 on a 81-0-19 vote and received commission on June 23, 2006.[2]
