Save-the-Redwoods League

Save the Redwoods League was created in 1918 to save ancient redwood forests and redwood ecosystems. Since the logging of redwood forests, "approximately 5% of the original 2 million acre coast redwood forest remains."[1] Since the organizations founding they have preserved more than 189,000 acres of redwood land and developed 63 redwood parks and reserves.[1] Save the Redwoods League protects redwood forests buy purchasing land; restore logged purchases; award education grants to encourage future protection of redwood forests; and further study to learn the needs of redwoods to survive.[2]

Leadership

"Save the Redwoods League is governed by a voting 60-member Board of Councillors from which nine members are elected to serve as the Board of Directors. The Council is responsible for setting policy, and the Directors oversee the administration of the League including expenditures. The Secretary and Executive Director, a nonvoting member of the Board of Directors, is responsible for implementing and managing the policies established by the Directors and Councillors."[3]
