Columbia, South Carolina: The South Carolina Election Commission plans to release a list of registered voters who do not have a state-issued photo ID. The list was compiled as part of a new South Carolina law that requires voters to present a photo ID in order to vote. The Commission decided to release the list in response to a Freedom of Information Act request by the Associated Press. The list would have been released later regardless since the ID law requires the state to provide the list to registered voters. The commission now plans to provide copies of the list on CD-ROM for a nominal fee. The law is currently being challenged by the ACLU and is undergoing a mandatory review by the DOJ under the Voting Rights Act.
