This measure sought to increase the current levy to one set at a rate of $1.48 per $1,000 of assessed value for a period of five years in order to further pay for firefighter and paramedic employees in the district. District officials have been stressing the need for this levy, though it will replace an expiring levy it will be slightly increased because of the fluctuation in property values. The levy accounts for around twelve percent of the districts budget currently and would continue to pay for general needs of the district.

|The South Kitsap Fire and Rescue (SKFR) Board of Commissioners adopted Resolution 2012-01 proposing renewal of a temporary increase in the property tax limit. The purpose of this six-year measure is to provide revenue needed to continue employing twenty Firefighter/EMT’s/Paramedics by avoiding a reduction in the annual levy of approximately $1,800,000. This measure would authorize SKFR to levy up to $1.48 per $1,000 of assessed value for collection beginning in 2013. The first year’s authorized levy amount would be used to compute the levy limitations for each of the five years after 2013 under Chapter 84.55 RCW. Should this proposition be enacted into law? (Pursuant to RCW 84.55.050 & SKFR Resolution No. 2012-01)|
