St. Helens Hospital Property Tax Repeal (November 2010)
This measure was approved
- YES 10,114 (72.44)
- NO 3,848 (27.56)
This measure sought to repeal the current hospital property tax which is currently helping to pay for construction of a new hospital which will cost $28.2 million. A citizen petition which objected to the new hospital petitioned to get this measure on the November ballot. The measure will also give back to residents all previous taxes collected by the district. The hospital board was against this measure, but had no choice in putting it on the ballot. Hospital officials were hoping that by educating voters about the needs of the hospital there will be a negative vote for the proposed measure.
