St Joseph School District Bond Measure (April 2012)

- NO 4,292 (34.51%)
This measure sought to issue a bond in the amount of $42 million in order to pay for a new elementary school as well as renovations and upgrades as needed throughout the school district. Since it was approved, a levy of $.31 per $100 of assessed value will also be implemented to pay for the bond. A clerical error on the ballot showed that the bond would be for $31.9 million when it should have been listed as $42 million. District officials had petitioned a Judge to change the wording and still allow the bond measure to stay on the ballot with the corrected amount.
The St. Joseph Metro Chamber gave its support behind the measure, as well as members from the labor sector. Both noted that the proposed addition of jobs and the future growth are the reasons for the support.

The question on the ballot:
|To implement certain facility improvement recommendations developed during the PACT (Planning A Course Together) community engagement process to improve, expand and acquire school facilities, shall The School District of St. Joseph issue its general obligation bonds in the amount of $31,900,000 for the purposes of acquiring, constructing, renovating, furnishing and equipping school facilities, including a new elementary school, and air conditioning and/or renovating some existing school facilities? If this question is approved, the District's debt service tax levy is estimated to remain unchanged at the current levy of $0.3145 per one hundred dollars of assessed valuation.|
