Buoniconti began his political experience by joining the West Springfield Democratic Town Committee. In 1992, he became a member of the West Springfield Town Meeting until 1996. After a two year interval, he rejoined the West Springfield Town Meeting until 2000. In 1998, he joined the West Springfield School Committee and stayed for two years. At this time he became a representative of Massachusetts until 2004.
