Stephen W. Cass is a judge for the Chautauqua County Surrogate's Court in New York. He has served in this position since 2000, following his election. He was re-elected in 2009 to a new 10-year term that ends in 2020.[1] He has also served as an Acting Justice of the Supreme Court since 2002.[2][3]


Cass received his B.A. degree from Allegheny College in 1985 and his J.D. degree from Albany Law School in 1988.[2]


Cass became a Justice of the Town Court of Carroll, NY in 1993. He served in that position through 1999. He also served as a Justice of the South Valley Town Court from 1995 to 1999. During that time, he also worked in the private practice as a partner of the law firm of Lodestro, Cass, Vanstron & Edwards. In 2000, he joined the Surrogate's Court and two year later, he was appointed an Acting Supreme Court Justice.[2] He was also the first judge of the Chautauqua County Integrated Domestic Violence Court when it opened in 2005.[4][5]
