Steve Fulop is the Mayor of Jersey City in New Jersey. He assumed office on July 1, 2013. His current term ends on January 1, 2026.

Fulop (Democratic Party) ran for election for Governor of New Jersey. He lost in the Democratic primary on June 10, 2025.

Fulop was previously a member of the Jersey City Council, representing Ward E from 2005 to 2013. He was also a Democratic candidate for New Jersey's District 13 seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2004. Fulop was defeated by former U.S. Rep. and current U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez (D) in the Democratic primary on June 8, 2004.[1][2]

Biography

Fulop earned a B.A. from Binghamton University, an M.P.A. from Columbia University, and an M.B.A. from New York University's Stern School of Business.[3]

Fulop's experience includes service as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and work in equity trading for Sanford C. Bernstein, as the vice president of electronic trading for Citi Group, and as an associate for Goldman Sachs.[3] His military service included a deployment to Iraq in 2003.[1]
