Tony Petrocco recall, Marble, Colorado (2011)
The controversy surrounding Petrocco stemmed from a garage built by local businessman Vincent Savage, who constructed a garage that some said intruded on the "public right of way." The garage also allegedly sat next to a creek that is protected by the United States Forest Service. According to reports, Petrocco allegedly worked with Savage on the proposal for the garage, and allegedly mislead voters into thinking that the U.S. Forest Service was working with the city to create a deal to build the garage. This lead to the recall campaign against the mayor.
James Aarts and Larry Good organized the recall effort. Petrocco said that Aarts and Good engaged in “a willful, systematic and coordinated campaign of harassment and character assassination toward me."
