Travis Childers is a 2014 Democratic candidate seeking election to the U.S. Senate from Mississippi.[1]

Childers was previously a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives. He represented the 1st District of Mississippi from 2008 to 2011.[2]

Career

Childers is the owner of Landmark Community, Landmark Nursing Center and Travis Childers Realty and Associates.[3] He also worked as a realtor for Real Estate Business of Robert Davis.[3]

Childers was a member of the U.S. House representing Mississippi's 1st Congressional District from 2008-2011.[3]

Childers is running in the 2014 election for the U.S. Senate, to represent Mississippi. Childers is seeking the Democratic nomination in the primary on June 3, 2014. The general election takes place November 4, 2014.

Voting Record

Frequency of Voting with Democratic Leadership

According to a July 2010 analysis of 1,357 votes cast from January 1, 2009 to June 16, 2010, Childers voted with the House Democratic leadership 81% of the time.[4] That same analysis reported that he also voted with party leadership 83% of the time in 2010.

Washington Post Analysis

A separate analysis from The Washington Post, concluded that he voted 81.4% of the time with a majority of Democrats in the House of Representatives.[5]

Specific votes

Rep. Childers voted for the stimulus bill.[6] 57% of U.S. voters believe that the stimulus has either hurt the economy (36%) or had no impact (21%). 38% believe the stimulus helped the economy.[7]

Childers also voted in favor of the "Cash for Clunkers" bill.[8] According to a June 2009 Rasmussen Reports poll, 54% of likely U.S. voters opposed Cash for Clunkers, while 35% supported it.[9]
