Two candidates overcome technicalities, make ballot
PIERRE, South Dakota: Last week, Judge Mark Barnett added two candidates to North Dakota's June 5 primary ballot. Secretary of State Jason Gant (R) had initially rejected the petitions of Charles Johnson (D) and David Mitchell (D) due to technical problems. After challenging the decision, both candidates were added to the ballot. Johnson is a candidate for District 8 of the State Senate. Mitchell is a candidate for District 20 of the state House.
Barnett agreed with Gant's determination as a matter of procedure, noting that the courts are responsible for determining whether technical errors are serious enough to invalidate a candidate petition.
