Hegland ran in the 2010 election for North Dakota State House District 41. Hegland was unopposed in the Democratic primary election on June 8, 2010. Hegland was defeated by Republican incumbents Al Carlson and Bette Grande in the general election on November 2, 2010.[1][2]
