September's Project of the Month

State-Legislative Scorecards-Badge.png

This September, we highlight an exciting project brought to you by our State Legislative Project on state legislative scorecards.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number. On Ballotpedia, we define scorecards as those produced by newspapers, interest groups, think tanks, partisan groups, 501c3s and 501c4s that provide relative rankings and covers all state or federal lawmakers. The goal of this project is to provide a comprehensive list of legislative scorecards for each state and to ensure that descriptions are unbiased and accurate. Have you seen a scorecard we've missed? Please email us at scorecards@ballotpedia.org.
Please include the following in your e-mail:

  • The link to the scorecard
  • The name of the organization
  • The state
  • The year or session the grades were given

KiristenS,

With regards to the image for Raul Garcia, I apologize if I've run afoul of BP's image use polices (in particular that Ballotpedia avoids images from of news sources). Before I uploaded the image I did review Ballotpedia:Non-free use rationale guidelines for images and Ballotpedia:Image copyright tags; you might consider adding this restriction to Ballotpedia:Non-free use rationale guidelines for images so other contributors will not make the same mistake. I'll also note that before I uploaded the photo I reviewed severally similarly sourced images uploaded by Ballotpedia staffers, so I thought what I was doing was in line with BP policy (in particular File:Ralph_Perez.jpg from a Worcester Telegram & Gazette article and File:Bud_Koppy.jpg from a Daily Inter Lake article. In any case, I will be careful to avoid such sources in the future.

Thanks for the gentle correction,

RichardP
Oops, forgot, File:Sergio Maldonado.jpg from a Star-Tribune article was the other one I looked at before uploading when looking for examples to make sure my upload was in line with BP policy. —RichardP (talk) 12:09, 1 September 2014 (CDT)
With regards to Raul Garcia, I had a spare moment, so I did a quick search and found a difference source for a candidate photo. The new file is at File:Raul Garcia.jpg. The source is Raul Garcia's campaign ad on Youtube. I don't know if was necessary or not, but on the image description I included a reference in the "other information" field that makes it clear that the ad originated with the campaign. Please feel free to delete this image as well if it is also not in line with BP's polices. —RichardP (talk) 14:46, 1 September 2014 (CDT)
