Utah Legalization of Horse Racing, Initiative A (1958)
It was a citizen-initiated measure that would have permitted pari-mutuel wagering at horse races and created a state horse-racing commission.
Initiative A in 1958 was the second citizen initiative to qualify for the ballot in Utah.
Horse racing had been legal in Utah through the 1920s, and was a popular attraction at sites such as the Lagoon Amusement Park in Farmington, Utah. However, the Utah State Legislature voted to make horse-racing illegal in the 1930s.
