Vermont's Lamoille state senate district is represented by Democratic Senator Jerry Colby.

As of the 2010 census, a total of 21,476 civilians reside within Vermont's Lamoille state senate district.[1] Vermont's state senators represent an average of 20,858 residents.[2] After the 2000 Census, each member represented 20,294 residents.[3]

About the office

Members of the Vermont State Senate serve two-year terms and are not subject to term limits. Vermont legislators assume office the first Wednesday after the first Tuesday in January.

Qualifications

The Vermont Constitution states, "No person shall be elected a Representative or a Senator until the person has resided in this State two years, the last year of which shall be in the legislative district for which the person is elected.".[4]

As of 2013, members of the Vermont Legislature are paid $604.79/week during session and $112/day for special sessions or interim committee meetings. Legislators who are non-commuters receive $101/day for lodging and $61/day for meals. Commuters receive $61/day for meals/mileage.[5]

If there is a vacancy in the senate, the Governor must select a replacement to fill the vacant seat.

The Governor must select a replacement that will serve for the remainder of the unexpired term. There are no deadlines set by statute on when a vacancy has to be filled.[6]

Elections for the office of Vermont State Senate consisted of a primary election on August 28, 2012, and a general election on November 6, 2012. Democrat Jerry Colby defeated Republican incumbent Richard Westman in the general election. Both candidates were unopposed in the primary elections.[7][8][9][10]
