Washington Coalition for Open Government

The Washington Coalition for Open Government (WCOG) is a 501(c)(3) nonpartisan organization that is dedicated to the education and legal protection of the open records law in the state of Washington.


The organization's mission reads as:

"The Coalition was formed to act as an independent, nonpartisan, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and defending the People's right to know in matters of public interest and in the conduct of the public's business. The Coalition's driving vision is to help foster open government processes, supervised by an informed and engaged citizenry, which is the cornerstone of democracy."[1]

Transparency projects

The group is working on advocating transparency legislation along with providing advice; step-by-step how to FOIA; and legal action against the state in order for government bodies to comply with transparency requests.
