Olympia, Washington: Governor Christine Gregoire announced yesterday she will not run for re-election in 2012.[1]

Gregoire was first elected in 2004 in one of the closest gubernatorial races in history, edging out Dino Rossi by fewer than 200 votes, and won a second term in office in 2008. Her announcement Monday did not send shock waves through the political community, and state representative Jay Inslee is expected to announce his intention to run later this month.[2][3]

Gregorie cited personal reasons for her decision, declaring on Monday: "After much thought and discussion, I know it's the right decision for my family and me." At this time, she does not intend to seek another public office.[1]
